Biography

True Rumour began way back around the turn of the century, with Mark Cobb on vocals and Lee Mynot on guitar. We plundered a haul of intense, melancholy songs written from the deep well of heavy emotions and life’s ups and downs.

In the early 2000s, we were joined by Pete Bull playing violin and mandolin, thus intensifying the True Rumour sound. We played extensively around London and also in Oxford after Mark moved there, often setting up acoustic events and gigs. We recorded in London with Andy from the Hank Dogs, but soon after, Pete moved to Kenya.

Suddenly we were back as a duo, but having got used to a fuller sound, in 2005 we recruited John Schirn on saxophone. And so the present line up of True Rumour, with our unique eclectic sound, was created.

We continued to play in London and Oxford, whilst also recording in several studios in Oxford. We eventually settled at the magnificent ‘Studio 21’ in London, with Bob Collins at the controls, recording our last few albums there. These were recorded as live takes, to capture the essence of a True Rumour gig.

Gigs have become fewer in number, but the songs have grown in potency and we are currently writing new songs for an album to be released in 2026.
